History Awaits in Detroit | NFPL Championship Weekend Preview

For the first time in league history, the National Futsal Premier League will crown its champion on a dedicated Championship Weekend.

Four teams remain. Two matches on Saturday will decide who advances. One match on Sunday will determine everything.

From dominant regular season runs to breakthrough performances and redemption arcs, each team arrives in Detroit with a different story — but the same goal.

The Final Four

Futsal Factory Academy

The standard.

FFA produced one of the most dominant seasons in league history, finishing 8–0–1 in the Midwest while scoring 111 goals and conceding just 25 — the best defensive record the league has ever seen.

They carried that form into the postseason, defeating Inter Detroit 9–6 in the conference final.

Led by Thomas Dono (20 points, 14 goals), supported by Graham Unsworth and Ben Pritchard, and anchored by veteran goalkeeper Robert Franzese-Damron, FFA combines experience, structure, and relentless attacking pressure.

They return to Championship Weekend with unfinished business after falling short in last season’s final.

BRUSA Futsal Club

The defending champions.

BRUSA enters looking to become the first team in NFPL history to win back-to-back titles after another strong campaign, finishing 7–2–0 in the Southwest.

They bring elite attacking production, led by:

  • Yan Brandao (21 points, league leader)
  • Kaue Martins (15 goals, league leader)
  • Eduardo Medina (12 assists, league leader)

Alongside them, goalkeeper Jared Wilson — last season’s Golden Glove winner — remains a difference-maker in big moments.

However, BRUSA faces an immediate challenge.

Brandao will miss the semifinal due to suspension, removing a key piece from their attack at a critical moment.

New Mexico Flagship Futsal Academy

The breakthrough.

After seasons of competing in the Southwest, NMFS finally has its moment — earning a place in Championship Weekend with a dramatic 6–5 win over BRUSA in the conference final.

That result, combined with a 9–0 statement victory over the same opponent earlier in the season, signals a team that has grown into a legitimate contender.

Their attack is among the most dangerous in the league, led by:

  • Christopher Santos (14 goals)
  • Luis Gonzalez (9 goals, 5 assists)
  • Luis Loera (6 goals, 6 assists)

When they find rhythm, they can overwhelm anyone.

HBK Futsal

The newcomers with momentum.

HBK claimed the inaugural California Conference title after a season defined by balance and consistency, finishing 5–1–3 while leading the division in scoring with 59 goals.

Their 8–3 win in the conference final showed a team capable of shifting gears when it matters most.

They are led by:

  • Alexander Bedoya (9 goals, 3 assists)
  • Bernard Vareskic (11 goals)
  • Gabriel Silveira (4 goals, 4 assists)

A team that spent the season in tight battles now arrives with confidence and belief.

Semifinal Matchups

Saturday, April 25 — 5:00 PM

FFA vs BRUSA

A rematch of last year’s NFPL Championship Game.

The league’s most dominant team meets the defending champions — but this time, the stakes come one round earlier. With Brandao unavailable, BRUSA will need to adjust against an FFA side that has been relentless all season.

Saturday, April 25 — 8:00 PM

HBK vs NMFS

A clash of momentum and attacking quality.

HBK’s balance and structure will be tested against NMFS’s explosive front line. If NMFS finds rhythm, they can control the game. If HBK dictates tempo, they can limit chances and capitalize on openings.

Championship Match

Sunday, April 26 — 1:00 PM

Two teams will remain.

One will lift the trophy.

What to Watch

This weekend brings together:

  • The league’s top scorers
  • The most complete team
  • The defending champions
  • A rising contender

Every phase of the game will matter.

The margins will be small. The moments will be decisive.

Final Word

The regular season built the foundation. The conference finals created separation.

Now, the NFPL Championship Weekend will define everything.

Four teams. Two days. One champion.
