NFPL Matchweek 9 Preview
Welcome to March in the NFPL! The business end of the season, as the playoffs are right around the corner in April. Matchweek 9 provides us with an excellent slate of games with points and positioning at stake.
Cadence SFC (H) VS. Joy Athletic (A)
Cadence SFC are playing catch up, having only had 1 game this season and sitting at the bottom of the league table. It's an important weekend for the Illinois-based futsal club. In their first matchup of the season, they'll host a rested Joy Athletic that haven't played a match in two weeks.
Fresh off winning Manager of the Month in February, Ted Kroeten's Joy Athletic will be looking to keep the pace on the league leaders with a big weekend. If they secure two wins on the road, they'll find themselves level on points with the Grand Rapids OLé, the league leaders.
Columbus Futsal (H) VS. Ginga FS (A)
The Battle for Ohio: Part II
Here at NFPL headquarters, we're just glad we get to see this game two weeks in a row after the two teams played to a storming 8-8 draw in Matchweek 8. Will Matchweek 9 bring a 9th goal to settle the fixture and give one team the bragging rights in Ohio?
This game guarantees goals, with proven scorers like Nick Rumisek, Jorge Guinovart, and Erik Hegerty representing Ginga FS while Columbus Futsal pivo Yul Illidge continues to find the back of the net with much-needed assistance coming from Pau Piang and Zak Boggs.
While another 8-8 draw would be wildly entertaining, both teams need the win.
cADENCE sfc (H) VS. gRAND rAPIDS olé (A)
Cadence SFC could be in for a difficult weekend as they host the second-placed Joy Athletic followed by the league leaders: Grand Rapids OLé. Or, they could be in for a stunning, memorable weekend as they defend home court and shock the NFPL.
Grand Rapids OLé have weathered every storm on the road this season, going undefeated whenever they step onto somebody else's court. They're also on a 3-game win streak right now and they won't be looking to slow that down.
fUTSAL iNDY (H) VS. jOY aTHLETIC (A)
Currently on a 3-game losing streak, Futsal Indy need to stop the skid as they host a Joy Athletic, who are on the opposite end of the form spectrum with a 4-game winning streak. It will be their second game in as many days, so tired legs could be a factor here, but the motivation for Joy is right there: win and they are level on points at the top of the table.
Futsal Indy will be looking to defend their home court and upset the Minnesota-based futsal club after a heart-wrenching last-minute loss at Futsal Factory Academy in Matchweek 8. Will Joy be able to stop Futsal Indy's Dudu Oliviera from taking over the scoresheet? Will Indy be able to stifle a fluid, energetic Joy attack? We'll see on Saturday night.
Best of luck to all of the players and managers in Matchweek 9! Follow along on our social media channels for game updates!
