NFPL Matchweek 7 Preview
Matchweek 7 is the halfway point of the 2021/22 National Futsal Premier League season, and after a busy 5-game weekend for Matchweek 6, we're given a chance to breathe with just one fixture this week.
FUTSAL FACTORY ACADEMY (H) VS. GINGA FS (A)
In their first matchup of the season, Cincinnati-based Ginga FS make the trip up I-75 to visit Futsal Factory Academy in Michigan. Both teams secured home victories in Matchweek 6, with Futsal Factory dispatching Columbus Futsal and Ginga FS taking down Cadence SFC after losing narrowly to Joy Athletic the night before.
Futsal Factory Academy remain undefeated at home this season, with two wins from two matches. Meanwhile, Ginga have lost one and won one on the road this season, taking an 8-2 drubbing in Minnesota against Joy Athletic in Matchweek 5 and picking up a tight victory over Futsal Indy back in Matchweek 1.
Ginga FS sit in 3rd while Futsal Factory Academy sit in 4th in the current standings. A win for Futsal Factory would put them level on points but ahead on goal differential and see them take 3rd place. A win for Ginga FS would narrow the gap between the Cincinnati futsal club and the league leaders to just 3 points.
For those attending the game, we have a handful of players on each team to keep an eye on. For Futsal Factory Academy, pivo Nik Djokic changes the team significantly when he's on the court. For Ginga FS, Erik Hegerty has enjoyed a consistent season on the wing, frequently finding his name on the scorer's sheet for both goals and assists. Both players made the January Team of the Month.
Futsal Factory will also have their hands full dealing with Jorge Guinovart if he continues his hot streak, having scored 9 and assisted 4 across two games in Matchweek 6. Futsal Factory goleiro Robert Damron will be leading a tough defensive team that have only conceded 21 goals this season, the second-lowest in the NFPL behind Grand Rapids OLé.
Best of luck to both teams in Matchweek 7!
