NFPL Matchweek 10 Review

by NFPL

Due to a late cancellation, Matchweek 10 in the National Futsal Premier League featured two matches as Grand Rapids OLé hosted Futsal Indy and Cadence SFC hosted Futsal Factory Academy.

Grand Rapids OLé 13-4 Futsal indy

Like a runaway train, Grand Rapids OLé continue to plow through all obstacles and in Matchweek 10 Futsal Indy unfortunately found themselves on the tracks.

Although Futsal Indy fared better in this match than their prior meeting in Matchweek 6, it wouldn't be enough as their goals came too late in the game to make a dent in the sizable OLé lead. As they normally do, OLé started brightly and on the front foot, scoring through #4 Daniel Diaz in the 4th minute through an assist by his twin #9 Adrian Diaz. In the 7th minute, #15 Johan Vasquez marked his first NFPL goal of the season after a nice assist from #8 Cole Russell.

Adrian Diaz dispatched a penalty in the 13th minute before Jonathan Stout got in on the action with an unassisted goal in the 17th to make it 4-0 to the home side at halftime. In the second half, 4 goals in the opening 10 minutes, with two coming from #4 Daniel Diaz to secure a first-half hat-trick and one from #22 Sammy Esquivel and #9 Adrian Diaz each made the game 8-0. The writing was on the wall here for Indy as they could not stop the Grand Rapids goal machine and couldn't break through their tenacious back line defending home court.

OLé continued to pour it on, with a goal in the 29th from #11 TJ Ifaturoti  and a goal in the 30th from #9 Diaz gave him a hat trick to match his brother's. An 11th goal from #6 Jeo Garcia came for OLé before Futsal Indy finally broke through, with #4 Welinson Santos scoring an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute.

Both teams traded goals in the final few minutes, with #10 Denis Sehic scoring two for Futsal Indy, Ifaturoti putting in another for OLé, and #3 Luis Soriano ending the game in the 39th minute with a 4th goal for Indy.

Grand Rapids OLé take the court in Matchweek 11 as they host Ginga FS. Futsal Indy will play the second fixture of the season against Futsal Factory Academy in what should be a spicy rematch of their Matchweek 8 bout.

Cadence SFC 4-6 FUTSAL Factory Academy

Futsal Factory Academy continue their hot mid-season form, grabbing all three points in Illinois as they took down Cadence SFC on the road to claim their 4th NFPL win in a row.

Futsal Factory took the lead after about 3 and a half minutes after a deft give-and-go led to a buried finish into the top corner by #5 Lucas Henrique de Carvalho. Cadence SFC would tie the game in the 13th minute after some nice play down the right side led to a ball sliding across the FFA box before being bundled home by #5 Jose Rayez.

Futsal Factory would retake the lead through a similar goal. A quick corner taken by Futsal Factory resulted in a missed save by the Cadence keeper, with #7 Ben Brummell there to get the ball over the line. Brummell would turn provideras FFA took a 3-1 lead after he smashed a ball across the box to find the open #4 Khal Suleiman for a tap-in.

After the halftime break it was Cadence SFC that brought the game back into reach. A goal in the 31st minute off a quick transition from #9 Edrick Rodrigo. Just a minute later Cadence tied the game, again through their #9 when he controlled the ball well from a free kick before smashing past Robert Damron.

With 7 minutes to play, Futsal Factory took the lead and didn't give it up. A quick combination off a corner resulted in #5 Lucas Henrique de Carvalho drilling a shot past the Cadence keeper from a tight angle for his second goal of the night. With 4 minutes to play FFA earned a penalty kick due to accumulated fouls which was tucked away by #16 Gustavo Rodrigues-de-Barros to give them a 5-3 lead.

With under 3 minutes to play, FFA sealed the win with a lightning-fast goal on the counter. #7 Brummel played a give-and-go with #5 Carvalho before slotting the ball into an empty net. Although Cadence SFC would answer directly off the kickoff with an unassisted goal by #9 Rodrigo to earn his hat trick, it wouldn't be enough as Cadence dropped their 4th in a row and Futsal Factory won their 4th in a row.

Futsal Factory Academy are in action once again in Matchweek 11 as they make the trip to Indianapolis in a showdown with Futsal Indy. Cadence SFC seek their first win of the season in a home game on Saturday night against Columbus Futsal
