NFPL 2022 Championship Game
Round 3 of the 2022 NFPL Playoffs is this weekend: The Championship Game! Saturday, April 30th is the final game of the season, with top seed Grand Rapids OLé hosting seed #2 Joy Athletic. Get all the details here.
GRAND RAPIDS OLÉ (H) VS. JOY ATHLETIC (A)
One final trip to Joy Athletic after a long season of travel for them. A final rematch as Grand Rapids OLé and Joy Athletic ended up splitting their home and away this year, and oddly enough, both teams lost at home and won when they were away.
The last time the teams saw each other was long ago in Matchweek 4. That day, Joy Athletic went to Grand Rapids and won, giving the #1 seed their only loss this season. Since then, both teams have been in great stride, racking up wins and goals over the last 2 months.
As we move into the final week of the season, National Futsal Premier League Commissioner Drew "Ducks" Ducker commented, "Grand Rapids OLé and Joy Athletic have proven all season that they are the top two teams in the league this year. Joy Athletic's youth and skill have shown they can beat anyone. Grand Rapids OLé fire power to score goals has been unmatched. I'm excited to see both groups compete this weekend for the title. It's true, these two teams are not just the best but the hottest teams in the league, both going unbeaten since early this season. Looking at the standings tells a great story. Joy Athletic have won 9 in a row, 10 if you include the playoffs. OLé have won 8 in a row, 9 if you include their semifinal victory. We're going to have an incredible match in Grand Rapids on Saturday night for the trophy.
