Matchweek 6 Review: Champions Return, Statements Made Across the League

Matchweek 6 delivered a defining weekend across multiple divisions, highlighted by the long-awaited return of the defending champions and several emphatic performances that helped clarify early-season momentum. From statement wins to tightly contested battles, the league continued to take shape as teams settled into the 2025–26 campaign.

BRUSA Futsal Club 10 – 2 Los Yunaites

Featured Match

Defending champions BRUSA wasted no time announcing their return, producing a commanding performance in their season opener against Los Yunaites.

BRUSA struck first just four minutes in when Eduardo Medina powered home a finish after shaking his defender and receiving a well-timed pass from Yan Brandão. Los Yunaites responded quickly, equalizing through Jaime Martinez, whose low strike found the bottom corner following a corner kick.

With under nine minutes remaining in the first half, BRUSA captain Kaue Martins restored the lead, finishing from close range after a pinpoint Medina pass to the back post. Late in the half, Los Yunaites elected to fly the goalkeeper, a decision that proved costly when Jean Carlos Caro misplayed a pass directly to Christian Lima, who calmly finished into an empty net from distance to give BRUSA a 3–1 halftime advantage.

The pattern continued early in the second half. Once again flying the goalkeeper, Los Yunaites were dispossessed—this time by Martins, who fired from half court into the open net to make it 4–1. BRUSA extended the lead further with an elaborate free kick routine that left Lima unmarked at the back post for a composed finish.

A brief lapse at the back allowed Los Yunaites back on the scoresheet, with Martinez striking powerfully under Jared Wilson. From there, however, BRUSA pulled away decisively. Brian Vargas finished from close range after another incisive Medina pass, before Martins added his second of the night. Lima completed his hat trick with three minutes remaining, Vargas struck again, and Martins capped the performance in the final minute—converting from close range after a deflected effort struck the bar—to seal his fourth goal of the match.

The result marked a dominant start to BRUSA’s title defense and sent a clear message to the rest of the division.

Capital Futsal 4 – 2 MitWest Futsal Club

Capital Futsal earned a hard-fought victory over MitWest Futsal Club, overturning a halftime deficit with a sharp and disciplined second-half response.

MitWest opened the scoring three minutes in through a well-executed corner routine, with Omar Lahbiki finishing neatly at the near post after combination play involving Sam Almutamwa and Juan Perez. The first half remained evenly contested, with MitWest carrying their lead into the break—mirroring the teams’ previous meeting.

Capital responded immediately after halftime. Ethan Ryder switched play with a precise cross-court pass to David Reilly, who slid the ball across goal for Eric Carey to tap in first time through the legs of goalkeeper Daiki Nielsen. Less than a minute later, Capital surged ahead via a flowing 3v2 counterattack, again featuring Reilly as the provider, this time for Ryder to finish emphatically into the roof of the net.

MitWest showed resilience, equalizing midway through the second half when Lahbiki found Marco Montanez, whose toe-poke caught Coleman Brandow off guard and nestled inside the far post. The deadlock was short-lived. Storm Powers threaded a clever pass into Sami Omar, who maneuvered around the goalkeeper and finished calmly to restore Capital’s lead.

With MitWest pushing numbers forward late, Capital sealed the result. Lincoln Martinez broke through on goal and unselfishly squared for Omar to tap in his second, securing a 4–2 win.

ThreeSixty Sala 11 – 5 Bay Area Footy PD

ThreeSixty Sala claimed a convincing road victory over Bay Area Footy PD, building an early advantage that proved decisive.

ThreeSixty raced into a 4–0 halftime lead, with Edwin Muñoz scoring twice, Alex Ardilla finding the net off the bench, and Clinton Bejarano adding another. Bay Area Footy showed attacking intent in the second half, scoring five times through Gerardo Preciado, Ricky Butron, Josue Galvez, Sergio Rivera, and Kevin Salto.

Despite Bay Area’s improved output after the restart, ThreeSixty continued to apply pressure. Muñoz added two more goals to complete a four-goal night, while Jeremy Alonso, Bejarano, Sergio Blanco, Manuel Gaitán, and Ardilla also scored in the second half.

The early deficit proved too much for Bay Area Footy to overcome, as ThreeSixty closed out an 11–5 victory.

HBK Futsal 12 – 0 Anthem Futsal

HBK Futsal delivered a ruthless, composed performance, overwhelming Anthem Futsal from start to finish to secure a commanding 12–0 victory.

HBK opened the scoring roughly six minutes into the first half, breaking quickly on the counterattack. Sterling Hancock picked out Henry Scott at the back post, where Scott finished calmly to give HBK the lead. The pressure continued to mount, and Alexander Bedoya doubled the advantage with a deflected effort just past the 14-minute mark.

Less than a minute later, HBK struck again on the break. Rafael Manzo and Gabriel Silveira ran unopposed at the Anthem goal, and a simple square pass allowed Manzo to tap in with no chance for goalkeeper Islamuddin Nabizada. Moments later, Bedoya turned provider, finding Silveira at the back post for a straightforward finish as HBK surged further ahead before halftime.

The second half began much the same way. Within the opening 90 seconds, Bedoya curled in his second goal of the match — a strike that beat the goalkeeper at the near post. Less than 30 seconds later, he completed a stunning hat trick, racing down the line and hammering a ferocious shot off the bar and in at the far corner, a clear goal-of-the-month contender.

HBK showed no signs of easing off. Emir Hernandez was afforded time and space to cut inside and fire a powerful long-range effort into the top corner for the seventh. Hernandez then turned provider two minutes later, slipping a pass to Devin Brown, who finished from a tight angle to make it 8–0.

Bedoya added his fourth of the night from close range after a Silveira assist, before Bernard “Bernie” Vareskic capitalized on a misplaced Anthem pass near goal, smashing home to extend the lead to double figures. Vareskic struck again shortly after, finding the far corner with authority, and with under a minute remaining, Brown capped the scoring with a precise finish into the top corner after yet another assist from Silveira — his third of the evening.

From the opening whistle to the final moments, HBK controlled every phase of play, combining sharp movement, quick passing, and disciplined defending in a dominant display.
