Matchweek 5 Review: Inter Detroit Break Through, Futsal Factory Roll On

Matchweek 5 delivered emphatic statements across the Midwest, as Inter Detroit claimed their first win of the season in dominant fashion, while Futsal Factory Academy continued their ruthless early-season form with a lopsided victory.

Inter Detroit 10 – 4 Capital Futsal

Inter Detroit set the tone early and never relinquished control, racing out to a commanding first-half lead and cruising to a comprehensive victory over Capital Futsal.

Nate Boos opened the scoring five minutes in with a low, driven strike into the corner that flew past Capital goalkeeper Coleman Brandow. Capital remained competitive in the early stages, but the match swung decisively in Inter’s favor midway through the first half.

Silas Rustin capitalized on a poor giveaway at the back in the 13th minute, tapping in from close range. One minute later, Boos converted from the penalty spot to make it 3–0. Inter continued to pile on pressure, with Luan Bressy producing one of the goals of the night in the 18th minute — flicking the ball over a defender, juggling once, and delicately chipping the goalkeeper without the ball ever touching the floor.

Moments later, Inter added a beautifully worked team goal. Captain Edwin Gomez-Ruiz combined with Rustin to pull the defense out of shape before squaring across goal for Guillermo Garcia to finish at the back post. Rustin then found Garcia again just before halftime, and a late handball inside the area allowed Gabe Baylon to dispatch a direct free kick from close range, sending Inter into the break up 7–0.

The second half began much the same way. Although Brandow produced a strong save on a breakaway, Santiago Duarte reacted first to bury the rebound just two minutes after the restart. Gomez-Ruiz soon added his own name to the scoresheet, lifting a composed chip over the goalkeeper after a well-weighted long ball from Duarte.

Garcia completed his hat trick shortly after, collecting a precise through ball from Boos and finishing calmly to push the score into double digits. Capital showed resilience late, scoring four times in the final ten minutes, including a well-worked counterattack finished by Ethan Ryder and a remarkable long-range goal from Brandow in the closing seconds. Despite the late surge, Inter Detroit secured a decisive win.

Futsal Factory Academy 15 – 0 MitWest Futsal Club

Futsal Factory Academy delivered a relentless, clinical performance, overwhelming MitWest Futsal Club in a match that swung decisively once the opening goal arrived.

The scores remained level until the seventh minute, when a corner kick taken by Thomas Dono found Ben Pritchard streaking into the box. Pritchard met it first time, smashing the ball top shelf to open the scoring. It took nearly seven more minutes for the second goal to arrive, but once it did, the floodgates opened.

Dono won the ball with strong defensive work and fired a shot that took a heavy deflection past MitWest goalkeeper Derek Li for 2–0. Moments later, another turnover at midcourt led to Pritchard threading a perfect Maradona pass into Dono’s path, and Dono finished calmly beneath the goalkeeper for 3–0.

Graham Unsworth added a tap-in from close range after a Pritchard assist, and then Futsal Factory struck twice in rapid succession with near-identical goals. Ducker played into Iarley Martins, whose intelligent layoff allowed David Magalhaes time and space to hammer the ball into the roof of the net — a move repeated almost exactly one minute later for 6–0.

Magalhaes then turned provider, finding Ducker in front of goal for a deft flicked finish, before scoring one of the night’s standout moments himself — firing directly from his own penalty area and catching the goalkeeper off his line for 8–0. With one second left in the half, Martins tapped in at the back post from a Magalhaes pass, capping a stunning first-half performance and a 9–0 halftime lead.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Lucas Yessayan scored early, pouncing on a loose ball and finishing low into the side netting, before Dono collected his own rebound to make it 11–0. Graham Unsworth added another from the penalty spot after a red card was issued for a goalkeeper handling outside the area, and Magalhaes continued his outstanding night with another close-range finish from a Martins assist.

Dono claimed his fourth goal of the match with eleven minutes remaining, finishing from close range after a well-worked set piece assisted by Khal Suleiman. The scoring was rounded out late on by Cole Russell, who delivered a trademark left-footed strike near post from distance, assisted by Unsworth, to complete a 15–0 victory.
