Matchweek 3 Review: Capital Futsal Rally, Flagship Cruise as Saturday Action Delivers
Matchweek 3 of the 2025/26 NFPL season featured two matches across the Midwest and Southwest Divisions, highlighted by a dramatic comeback from Capital Futsal and another dominant showing from New Mexico Flagship Futsal Academy.
Capital Futsal 7, MitWest Futsal Club 3
Midwest Division
In a matchup between two newcomers to the NFPL, Capital Futsal overcame an early deficit to claim a 7–3 victory over MitWest Futsal Club, flipping the match decisively after falling behind in the opening minutes.
MitWest struck first just under five minutes in when Juan Diego Urribarri Perez (#4) opened the scoring, assisted by Omar Lahbiki (#5). Four minutes later, MitWest doubled the advantage as Michael Anderson Batista Rodriguez (#3) found the net unassisted to make it 2–0.
From there, Capital completely seized control.
With 6:34 left in the first half, Yermen Almanov (#4) pulled Capital back into the match, scoring the first NFPL goal in club history, assisted by Eric Carey (#22). Less than a minute later, Carey added one of his own, finishing a move set up by Storm Powers (#99).
Capital took the lead with 1:51 remaining in the half as Lincoln Martinez (#9) converted a well-worked combination, assisted by Sammy Omar (#12), sending the hosts into halftime up 3–2.
The second half opened with 11 scoreless minutes, as both sides created chances but were denied by strong goalkeeping performances from Coleman Randow for Capital and Aiden Hanchett for MitWest.
Capital finally broke through when Storm Powers (#99) extended the lead, assisted by David Reilly (#2). Just 90 seconds later, Ethan Ryder (#7) produced a box-to-box solo effort, squeezing his finish between Hanchett’s legs to make it 5–2.
The momentum continued as Jaret Gill (#42) capped Capital’s six-goal unanswered run with a one-touch finish following a give-and-go sequence marked by quick, precise passing.
MitWest briefly stemmed the tide with just under six minutes remaining, as Ibrahim Diomande (#9) scored from a corner kick, assisted by Urribarri Perez, but Capital had the final word. With 1:18 left to play, Charles Halt (#10) sealed the result with an unassisted half-court strike into an empty net, closing out a 7–3 win.
New Mexico Flagship Futsal Academy 12, Los Yunaites 6
Southwest Division
In the Southwest Division, New Mexico Flagship Futsal Academy delivered a dominant performance, defeating Los Yunaites 12–6 in a match that was largely decided early.
Flagship set the tone immediately, racing to an 11–0 lead inside the opening 13 minutes. Christopher Santos (#27) continued his blistering start to the season with four goals, further establishing himself as the early frontrunner for the Golden Boot.
Carlos Castillo (#17) made his season debut for Flagship and made an immediate impact, scoring three goals and adding one assist as the hosts overwhelmed Los Yunaites with relentless pressure and movement.
Los Yunaites finally got on the board with 3:24 remaining in the first half through Moises Diaz (#9). Despite the early deficit, Los Yunaites showed resilience late, scoring five goals in the second half, beginning with 5:41 left to play.
Juan Carlos Perez (#7) led the late surge with two goals, as Los Yunaites worked to make the scoreline more respectable. Flagship, however, remained composed and closed the match emphatically when goalkeeper Juan Ruiz converted a penalty kick with 30 seconds remaining, capping off the scoring.
While the final score read 12–6, Flagship’s ruthless first-half performance firmly dictated the outcome, reinforcing their early-season form and attacking depth.
