Matchweek 13 Review: Statement Win for Santa Fe, Points Shared in California
Matchweek 13 delivered a smaller slate of matches, but the games that were played carried major implications as the season nears its conclusion.
A statement win in the Southwest, a hard-fought draw in California, and an entertaining women’s matchup highlighted a weekend where every result mattered with the playoffs just around the corner.
Santa Fe Gloom 5–4 BRUSA Futsal Club
Southwest Division
Santa Fe Gloom pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season, defeating BRUSA Futsal Club 5–4 at home in a dramatic contest.
BRUSA came out strong, taking a 2–0 lead through goals from Joey Fuller and Pedro Lopez, but Santa Fe responded with goals from Andrés Monge and Leonardo David to bring the game level. BRUSA regained the lead through Lopez before Julian Bustamante equalized, sending the match into halftime tied 3–3.
Santa Fe took control early in the second half when Bryan Rivas found the net five minutes in, only for BRUSA to respond three minutes later through Karim Moyano.
The decisive moment came with just under six minutes remaining, as Andrés Monge scored his second of the night—assisted by Rivas—to give Santa Fe a lead they would not relinquish.
The result marks a major win for Santa Fe Gloom and hands BRUSA their second consecutive loss as the playoff race tightens.
HBK Futsal 3–3 ThreeSixty Sala
California Division
HBK Futsal and ThreeSixty Sala played to a 3–3 draw in a back-and-forth California Division matchup.
HBK opened the scoring nearly nine minutes into the match when Rudy Castro reacted quickest to a rebound to put his side ahead. ThreeSixty responded emphatically, scoring three straight goals to take a 3–1 halftime lead.
Defensive lapses proved costly for HBK, as Frank Hinostroza found the corner, Edwin Muñoz finished from close range, and a well-worked free kick—assisted by Alexander Ardilla—found Fredy Ramirez unmarked at the back post.
In the second half, HBK began to claw their way back. Sterling Hancock first made a crucial goal-line clearance before getting on the scoresheet himself on a counterattack, assisted by Christian Vallin.
With just under six minutes remaining, Bernard Vareskic delivered the equalizer, smashing a powerful finish into the roof of the net from Michael Diaz’s corner.
Both sides settled for a point in a match that showcased momentum swings and attacking quality from both teams.
HBK Futsal (W) 6–4 ThreeSixty Sala (W)
Women’s Division
HBK Futsal secured a 6–4 victory over ThreeSixty Sala in an entertaining women’s matchup.
HBK came out strong, with Luz Arreaga scoring in the opening minute before adding a second just before halftime to bookend a dominant first-half performance. Goals from Katelyn Nebesnick and Heidy Riveros helped HBK take a 4–2 lead into halftime.
ThreeSixty stayed competitive throughout, with Kelly Johnson scoring a solo goal in the ninth minute and later adding another early in the second half, assisted by Zuleyla Smith. Bri Garcia and Elizabeth Arcia also found the net to keep the pressure on.
However, HBK maintained control of the match, with Paola Honde restoring the lead midway through the second half before Arreaga completed her hat trick in the final minute to seal the victory.
The win strengthens HBK’s position at the top of the women’s division heading into the final stretch of the season.
