Matchweek 11 Review: FFA Survive Capital Push, HBK Edge Bay Area in California Thriller
Matchweek 11 Review: FFA Survive Capital Push, Bay Area Edge HBK in California Thriller
Matchweek 11 delivered one of the most competitive matches of the Midwest season so far, as Capital Futsal pushed division leaders Futsal Factory Academy harder than any opponent to date. Meanwhile, in California, HBK Futsal claimed victories in both the women’s and men’s matches during a competitive doubleheader with Bay Area Footy.
Futsal Factory Academy 9–6 Capital Futsal
Midwest Division
The marquee matchup of Matchweek 11 saw Capital Futsal give division leaders Futsal Factory Academy their toughest test of the season.
The match started cautiously, with neither side finding the net until six minutes in. Capital struck first when Cody Boogart sprinted down the left side and finished past Robert Franzese-Damron after a counterattack initiated by Samy Omar.
Just 30 seconds later Capital doubled their lead. A corner from David Ethan Ryder found David Reilly unmarked at the back post, who tapped home to make it 2–0 following an uncharacteristically disorganized defensive moment from FFA.
FFA responded quickly. Around the ten-minute mark, David Magalhaes weaved past multiple defenders before laying the ball off to Philip Leucht, whose powerful near-post finish brought the score to 2–1.
Three minutes later FFA were level. Cole Russell played a corner routine to Unejs Ramaxhiku, whose driven ball across goal was poked home by Gui Ramos from close range.
Momentum had shifted.
Russell then took control of the game, scoring twice in the span of a minute to give FFA a 4–2 lead. First, he calmly converted a penalty after a foul. Moments later he finished a fast counterattack with a powerful left-footed strike into the side netting, assisted by Leucht.
Capital refused to go away. Less than a minute later, a free kick from Charles Halt produced a rebound that Cody Boogart finished for his second goal of the half, cutting the deficit to 4–3.
FFA restored their two-goal cushion just before halftime. Following a corner from Graham Unsworth, David Magalhaes smashed a precise first-time strike into the side netting to make it 5–3.
Russell Takes Over
FFA extended their lead early in the second half thanks again to Russell.
Just over two minutes in, Russell reacted quickly to a midcourt free kick, playing into Ramos before continuing his run and finishing the return pass with a first-time strike to complete his hat trick.
Moments later Russell delivered one of the goals of the match. Carrying the ball nearly the length of the court, he beat two defenders before calmly finishing into the far corner to make it 7–3.
Capital again showed their resilience.
A flowing passing move in midcourt allowed Charles Halt to deliver a long pass to Cody Granville, whose delicate flick finish floated over Franzese-Damron to make it 7–4.
FFA responded quickly. After Andrew Schwartz drew a foul, Renan Paiva caught the defense organizing and calmly placed the resulting spot kick into the far corner to make it 8–4 with under ten minutes to play.
Capital made one final push.
First, Samy Omar rolled a free kick to Charles Halt, who toe-poked it past Franzese-Damron to make it 8–5. A minute later Omar again found Cody Boogart, who chipped the onrushing goalkeeper for his hat trick to bring the score to 8–6 and briefly put FFA under pressure.
But the division leaders stayed composed.
With 90 seconds remaining, David Magalhaes sealed the victory from the penalty spot to secure a 9–6 win and keep FFA’s undefeated season intact.
HBK Futsal 8–3 Bay Area Footy
Women's Division
In the women’s matchup in California, HBK produced a dominant performance on the road, defeating Bay Area Footy 8–3.

For Bay Area, Kalea Powell scored twice while Brenda Ruiz recorded one goal and two assists.
Bay Area Footy 5–4 HBK Futsal
California Division
The men’s matchup later in the evening delivered one of the most dramatic matches of Matchweek 11, with HBK Futsal edging Bay Area Footy 5–4 in a tightly contested battle.
Bay Area started strong and carried a 3–1 lead into halftime thanks to goals from Carlos Zavala, Sergio Rivera, and Josue Galvez. HBK’s lone first-half goal came from Frederik Solberg.
HBK responded early in the second half and gradually shifted momentum. Goals from Alexander Bedoya, Adrian Medina, and Sterling Hancock helped bring the match level as HBK pushed forward in search of a winner.
With the match hanging in the balance late in the game, Emir Hernandez delivered the decisive moment, scoring the final goal to secure a 5–4 victory for HBK.
The result keeps HBK firmly in control of the California Division race as the season continues.
