March 2023 Women's Team of the Month

by Matt Aldrich

With 3 regular season matches played in the NFPL Women's Division in March, the Queens of the Court acknowledges the players that went above and beyond in their play this month.

March 2023 QUEENS OF THE COURT

Goalkeeper: Cayla Coleman

Cayla Coleman deputized for the absent Audrey Gibson-Zweifel and pushed the top two teams in the league to their limits. Despite the two narrow losses at home, Coleman stood out in front of all three managers for Columbus Futsal. Her shotstopping ability was apparent on the scoreline: Grand Rapids OLé were held to just 3 goals despite averaging 6 per game, and Futsal Factory were held to just 4 goals when they averaged 9.5 per game throughout the season.

FIXO: Nicole Grimaldo

Nicole Grimaldo led the way for Futsal Factory through their matches in March just as she has throughout the season - she leads the league in points and assists. In March, a tight victory on the road against Columbus Futsal featured her pulling the strings and two weeks later she chalked up an assist in the NFPL Women's Championship game against Grand Rapids OLé.

ALA: Citlali Luna

Citlali Luna capped off a brilliant season with a dominant performance in March for Grand Rapids OLé. Luna's 3 goals on March 11th in their road win over Columbus Futsal all but guaranteed the win on her own, and an additional goal in the NFPL Women's Championship game on March 19th was critical in securing Grand Rapids OLé the trophy in the inaugural Women's Division.

ALA: Khloe Koelling

Khloe Koelling stepped up when her team needed her most in March. After starting the season in red-hot form with 4 goals in the opener for Grand Rapids OLé, Koelling ended the season in the same manner, assisting two against Columbus Futsal and then scoring a decisive goal in the NFPL Women's Championship.

PIVO: CharlieBleu Saunders

Two big goals from CharlieBleu Saunders for Futsal Factory in their March 11 win on the road at Columbus Futsal earned Saunders NFPL Player of the Week honors in addition to securing all 3 points in a must-win game.

6TH: Mari Meza

Mari Meza was the star of the show for Grand Rapids OLé in the NFPL Women's Championship, tallying up 1 goal and 2 assists in a 5-3 win and earning more points than any other player in that game. For a player that had only recorded 1 point in the entire regular season, Meza stepped up when it mattered most and had a huge role in earning the trophy for Grand Rapids.

Manager: Fabian Rodriguez

Grand Rapids OLé manager Fabian Rodriguez earns the Manager of the Month award for guiding his team to an inaugural NFPL Women's Division Championship on the back of a 6-game win streak. In a winner-take-all matchup in the Championship game, it was the Grand Rapids OLé ladies that came out on top against the league-leading Futsal Factory.
