Finals Booked, Drama Delivered | NFPL Conference Finals Review
The NFPL Conference Finals delivered exactly what you would expect at this stage of the season — intensity, drama, and moments that defined entire campaigns.
Two teams punched their tickets to the semifinals. One matchup remains unfinished. And across both completed finals, the margins were as thin as they’ve been all year.
Midwest: FFA Hold Off Inter Detroit in High-Scoring Battle
Futsal Factory Academy 9–6 Inter Detroit
This one felt like a continuation of their regular season meetings — open, intense, and never truly settled.
FFA came out sharp, jumping to an early 2–0 lead and extending it to 3–1 before the game settled into a tense stretch. Nearly ten minutes passed without a goal before Nate Boos converted from the penalty spot to pull Inter back into it.
By halftime, it was 4–3 to FFA, with Boos scoring three (two from penalties) and Cole Russell already on two. Both goalkeepers — Robert Franzese-Damron and Emerson Mena — came up with key saves to keep the game on edge.
The second half followed a similar script.
Less than two minutes in, Russell completed his hat trick with a powerful left-footed strike at the near post, and the game remained at 5–3 for an extended stretch as both sides battled for control.
Then the fouls began to matter.
A 10-meter penalty with under eight minutes to play gave Russell his fourth, pushing FFA to 6–3. Boos responded almost immediately with his fourth of the night — a superb finish into the top corner — but another foul led to another penalty, and Russell made it count again.
At 7–4 with under five to play, it looked like FFA had control.
Inter had other ideas.
Two goals in the span of a minute from Andres Chavez brought it to 7–6, shifting momentum once again and setting up a tense finish.
But the decisive moment came shortly after.
A misplayed chipped pass from Edwin Gomez-Ruiz fell directly to Andrew Schwartz, and with the goalkeeper committed forward, he calmly finished into an empty net from distance to restore the cushion.
From there, another Russell penalty sealed it.
FFA advances with a 9–6 win, surviving a late surge and once again proving the difference in key moments.
Southwest: NMFS Complete Turnaround to Eliminate BRUSA
New Mexico Flagship Futsal Academy 6–5 BRUSA Futsal Club
This one had everything.
From the opening minutes, it was clear this would be a physical, emotional contest. Challenges flew in, tempers flared, and neither side was willing to give an inch.
Kaue Martins broke the deadlock midway through the first half, turning his defender and smashing a finish into the roof of the net — a classic moment from one of the league’s top scorers.
NMFS responded just before halftime, with a well-worked sequence involving Jesus Guillen and Johan Prado ending in a simple finish for Luis Gonzalez to level the match.
Early in the second half, BRUSA regained control.
Christian Lima restored the lead with a powerful first-time strike, and Pedro Lopez extended it to 3–1, putting NMFS under real pressure.
That’s when the game flipped.
NMFS scored four unanswered goals, completely turning the match on its head.
Sebastian Contreras got it started, before a quick combination between Prado and Gonzalez tied the game at 3–3. Seconds later, a defensive error gave Gonzalez another chance, and he made no mistake — completing his hat trick and giving NMFS the lead.
Moments later, Gonzalez turned provider, setting up Contreras to make it 5–3.
BRUSA responded late.
Yan Brandao scored a stunning strike into the top corner, and then combined with Lopez again to bring the game level at 5–5 with under three minutes remaining.
NMFS had a chance to retake the lead from the penalty spot — and missed.
But they didn’t let that define the outcome.
With BRUSA forced into a man-down situation late, the pressure finally broke through. Contreras found Guillen, whose shot slipped through the goalkeeper and into the far post with just 50 seconds remaining.
NMFS held on from there.
A 6–5 win, and a complete turnaround against a team that had beaten them earlier in the season.
California: Final Postponed, Still to Be Decided
HBK Futsal 2–2 ThreeSixty Sala (Match Suspended)
The California Conference Final remains unfinished.
With the match tied 2–2, play was halted due to unsafe conditions, including a wet playing surface that led to a player injury.
The match will be resumed on Saturday, April 18, with the score and time remaining carried over. Final details regarding time and location are still to be confirmed.
Given that all three previous meetings between these teams ended in draws, it’s fitting that this one remains unresolved — for now.
Final Word
Two finals decided. One still hanging in the balance.
FFA moves on, continuing their dominant run in the Midwest.
NMFS delivers one of the most impressive wins of the season to advance from the Southwest.
California will need one more day to find its winner.
The margins are only getting smaller.
