January 2023 Women's Team of the Month

In January 2023 we got a chance to watch more games and look more closely at the top players in the NFPL Women's Division. Let's see who rose to the occasion.

A huge performance in goal that maintained a narrow lead over Futsal Factory in Matchweek 6 may have been enough, but Mia Quintanathen added a goal from her own box to effectively end the game and scoop Player of the Week honors to boot. The Grand Rapids OLé goalkeeper has been a standout between the posts in the NFPL Women's Divisionthis season and has gathered one goal and one assist in January as well.

Despite another challenging defeat in January, it's impossible to watch Futsal Indy games and not notice their captain, Janaina "Jana" Novaes Miknus. Two goals in their Matchweek 4 loss to Grand Rapids OLé puts Jana at the top of her team in goals and tied for second in assists, with an average of 3.0 points per game. She is tough in the tackle and decisive in front of goal and Futsal Indy will continue to look to her for leadership in the second half of the season.

ALA: Citlali Luna

Voted the player of the game in their Matchweek 6 victory over in-state rivals Futsal Factory, Citlali Luna continues her excellent season and maintains her spot in the NFPL Team of the Month for a second straight month. Quick feet, great vision, and her ability to read the game makes her a dangerous player for NFPL defenses. She sits 4th on Grand Rapids OLé for total points with 2 goals and 1 assist on the season.

ALA: Nicole Grimaldo

Nicole Grimaldo has enjoyed a successful month in the NFPL Women's Division's top team, Futsal Factory Academy. A player of the game performance in their Matchweek 5 victory over Columbus Futsal added to an excellent start to the season for the FFA ala. She sits 3rd on the team in total points with 3 goals and 5 assists on the season, averaging 2.0 points per game and she leads the league in assists. Her dribbling abilities and court vision have made her a tough matchup for teams this season.

PIVO: Beanie Harshe

Beanie Harshe scores goals. With one in their Matchweek 6 game against Grand Rapids and 2 in their Matchweek 5 win over Columbus Futsal, she's pushed herself to 5th on Futsal Factory Academy in total points and averages 1.5 points per game. She's especially deadly from set pieces and presents a skillful, physical presence at the top of the FFA formation, while also providing end product to the scoreline.

6TH: Audrey Gibson-Zweifel

Despite the lopsided loss, Audrey Gibson-Zweifel was the standout player for Columbus Futsal Club in their inaugural women's game this month. With numerous big saves on shots from all distances and angles, she's established herself as one of the league's best goalkeepers. Additionally, she was the one that scored the lone Columbus goal in their Matchweek 5 game against Futsal Factory Academy.

With two wins from two games, including a 5-3 win at home over the league leaders, Fabian Rodriguez has Grand Rapids OLé clicking, believing, and fighting for an all-important berth in the NFPL Championship. They're likely to go joint-top of the league next month and battle it out with Futsal Factory Academy for the trophy.

Congratulations to our January 2023 Team of the Month! Best of luck to these Queens of the Court and the rest of the players and managers in the upcoming games this season.
