Matchweek 5 Preview
Our first double-header for the 2023/23 NFPL season has arrived in Matchweek 5! To say we're excited is an understatement as we've got two exciting matchups here.
Cadence SFC (H) vs. Detroit Imperial Futsal (A)
We get our first look at Cadence SFC this season while Detroit Imperial Futsal will play their third match of the season, so fitness and form may be two aspects to look at here especially as Imperial are off the back of an impressive Matchweek 4 victory over in-state rivals Futsal Factory Academy.
Cadence SFC have frequently been the division's whipping boys, but a fresh season brings the opportunity for a fresh start and fresh faces. They usually field a young team that may be able to counter Detroit Imperial's pace and movement more effectively than other teams in the division - we'll have to wait and see on Saturday night.
It's tough to get points on the road in this league, as Detroit Imperial have already learned at the hands of Grand Rapids OLé. However, if they bring their key players and they play to their potential, most would have them pegged to leave Chicago with all 3 points. They have the chance to go top of the table - can they make the most of it?
New Mexico Flagship FC (H) VS. Santa Fe Gloom (A)
Santa Fe Gloom enjoyed an impressive NFPL debut at home, taking down Colorado Futsal Academy in Matchweek 3. The team they brought out had numerous new faces as well as a handful that will be quite familiar to New Mexico Flagship FC: Pedro Torres, Isai Rivas, Julian Bustamante, and Bryan Rivas all made the leap from NMFS to SFG this offseason. Those 4 put in 28 goals and 17 assists last season - a tremendous amount of firepower that propelled New Mexico Flagship to the championship game.
What players have the Flagship unearthed to combat what should be a potent Gloom attack? We'll see on Saturday night!
