Matchweek 12 Review: Big Home Wins in Both Divisions
MATCHWEEK 12 REVIEW:
OLé and BRUSA Record Big Home Wins
Grand Rapids OLé 12-3 Detroit Imperial Futsal
In a battle of the top two teams in the Midwest, Grand Rapids OLé proved better on the night with a huge 12-3 win over visiting Detroit Imperial Futsal. second win in a row this season and now sit just one point off of second place in the Midwest after a home win over Cadence SFC in Matchweek 11.
The early game was a close, back-and-forth match. OLé scored in the opening minute through Sammy Esquivel but Detroit responded with an excellently worked goal - Davide Di Poce's beautifully lofted pass found Omar Lahbiki who squared to Nicolas Ramos to head beyond Montes in net to tie the game. Lahbiki then scored a lovely solo goal to take the lead just a minute later.
Gabe Villagomez continued to make his mark on the proceedings, collecting his second and third assists (this one is fantastic) of the half as Grand Rapids OLé responded through Cesar Alayo and Lito Esquivel. Villagomez then helped himself to a goal, cleaning up a rebound as OLé took a 4-2 lead in the closing moments of the first half.
Ramos scored again for the visitors early in the second half and it looked like we'd continue to have a close game, but the match devolved with the visitors picking up a series of red cards that limited their bench options severely. OLé scored four times in four minutes, essentially putting the game away and securing the 3 points. Detroit wouldn't score again and it was one-way traffic and Grand Rapids opened up an 8-point gap in the table.
BRUSA FC 5-2 Colorado Futsal Academy
BRUSA FC capitalized with a big home win that moved them up in the table in the Southwest, taking down the division-leading visitors Colorado Futsal Academy by a score of 5-2.
Colorado opened the scoring through Deivis Leal, currently on a hot run of form as he has scored in every game for CFA this season, bringing his tally up to 6. However, it was BRUSA's night and they eventually broke through. Known for their set pieces, BRUSA ran through a play directly from the training ground and the resulting scramble gave Jonathan Arevalo the chance to poke the ball into the net from close range to tie it at 1-1.
A few minutes later, they took the lead off a goalkeeping error, finished calmly by Patrick Ruiz.
Colorado tied the game at 2-2 immediately after the halftime break, the ball going from the goalkeeper to the back of the net in just a few seconds as Leal scored his 7th of the season and his second of the night.
The two teams were only level for a minute or two. A dangerous ball into the box from BRUSA was deflected in for an own goal and the home side would cling onto this lead late into the game before adding the finishing goals from Karim Moyano and Jonathan Ramis.
A LOOK AT THE TABLE AFTER MATCHWEEK 12:
BRUSA FC have a game in hand in the Southwest and they're playing again this coming weekend in a big road match against NM Flagship FC. Detroit Imperial missed the opportunity to close the gap with OLé and have left the door open for Futsal Factory Academy to enter the playoff picture.
