NFPL Matchweek 14 Preview

by NFPL

With just a few weeks left in the season and a few games remaining for each team, we're brought to Matchweek 14 in the NFPL.

Grand Rapids OLé vs. Columbus Futsal

After a thrilling 6-6 draw in Matchweek 12, the top two, playoff-bound teams will have one more opportunity to get a measure of themselves before everything is laid on the line in the brackets. Grand Rapids OLé sit atop the Great Lakes Conference, with Columbus just behind in second place.

If Columbus Futsal can win, they'll secure home-court advantage in the playoffs - so this game has significant implications as they would love to play in front of the raucous Westwood Fieldhouse fans. OLé have not dropped a single point at home this season, conceding only 5 goals when they're playing in front of their own fans.

GINGA FS VS. FUTSAL FACTORY

Just a week ago in Matchweek 13, Ginga FS effectively ended Futsal Factory's slim hopes of sneaking their way into the playoffs with a 7-3 win on the road in Michigan. Matchweek 14 features an immediate rematch in Cincinnati, OH between two teams whose seasons have no playoff future.

When the pressure's off, players play for pride. Both teams have struggled this season and would be grateful to end the season on a high note.

FC TRYZUB VS. FUTSAL INDY

FC Tryzub host Futsal Indy in Matchweek 14 in what will likely be a lopsided matchup, with FC Tryzub absolutely flying and Futsal Indy winless going into the final phase of the season.

In their last meeting on March 4th, FC Tryzub went to Indianapolis and won easily with a 14-3 scoreline. With FC Tryzub boasting the league's best goal differential and the league's leading scorer in Igor Bych, the chances of an upset seem very slim indeed.

SAN DIEGO VOYAGERS VS. BRUSA FC

As quickly as it's come, the Southwest Conference is coming to a rapid close on its first season in the NFPL. The current conference leaders, Brusa FC, will be playing their last game in Matchweek 14 - a road fixture against San Diego Voyagers

Fresh off a loss to second-placed New Mexico Flagship, Brusa will be looking to bounce back and put the pressure on the chasing pack. A loss would be near fatal, with New Mexico Flagship in pole position to take the regular season championship.

San Diego Voyagers, with a 1-3-0 record and 3 points, are out of the running to equal or better Brusa's 10-point haul in 5 games this season thus far, but might be happy to spoil Brusa's season and get revenge for a 5-3 loss on February 26th.

Cadence SFC VS. GRAND RAPIDS OLÉ

Cadence SFC close out their regular season with a final home game against one of the league's best: Grand Rapids OLé. A win for Cadence SFC would be surprising, despite the massive improvements they've made on the court this season.

However, Grand Rapids will be playing their second game in two days, having played a tough match at home against Columbus with plenty on the line the day prior. On the road in the NFPL, anything can happen, and if Grand Rapids have one eye on the playoffs and underestimate Cadence, the home side might just be able to end their season on a high.

WHERE THINGS STAND:

The playoffs have been settled in the Midwest and Great Lakes Conferences. Grand Rapids OLè will face Columbus Futsal, with the location to be determined, and FC Tryzub will likely host Joy Athletic in Chicago. In the Southwest, Brusa FC will have to secure a win on the road and hope another team can do them a favor against New Mexico Flagship to secure the regular season win.
